May 18, 2018: Parks & Recreation staff are continuing to work toward a solution that will allow the pool to open as soon as possible. After evaluating various options, a vendor has been selected to provide a temporary water filtration system for the summer swimming season. Approval must be given by various entities, including the Jefferson County Health Department, to be sure the system will adequately provide a safe swimming environment for our citizens. Additional information will be shared as it is available. We appreciate your continued patience.
May 14, 2018: The water filtration system for the swimming pool at Wald Park is inoperable and will require significant and costly repairs. The filtration system must function properly to provide a safe, healthy swimming environment for our citizens. As such, Parks & Recreation staff are working diligently to research the best options for repair, but the POOL WILL BE CLOSED TEMPORARILY until the filtration system is working properly. The pool has been inspected thoroughly through the years, and this internal system failure is a by-product of our aging system that could not have been predicted. For those of you who have already purchased a pool pass for this summer, Parks & Recreation staff will be in communication with you soon. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
The pool at Wald Park is operated in partnership with the Birmingham Swim League. The City operates the pool from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and BSL operates the pool the rest of the year. Please inquire with the Vestavia Hills Parks and Recreation office for class times, reservations, and availability for the public. Residents may purchase a pool membership badge at the Parks and Recreation office (978-0166).
