Alabama’s 16th annual sales tax holiday for school-related items begins at 12:01am Friday, July 16, 2021, and ends at midnight Sunday, July 18, 2021, giving shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain school supplies, computers, books and clothing free of the state’s sales or use tax. The state of Alabama waives its 4% sales tax on school-related supplies and clothing, and more than 300 cities and counties (Vestavia Hills included) will waive their local taxes.
Exempt items include:
• Clothing priced at $100 or less per article
• School supplies valued at $50 or less per item
• Books that cost $30 or less per book
• Tablets, laptops, computers and printers with a selling price of $750 or less
