Greendale Road Sidewalk
Provide sidewalk connection from Crosshaven Drive to East Street while adding traffic calming elements to Greendale Road. Added as a priority sidewalk project due to the results of a traffic calming analysis that found that the observed speeds were outside of the standards desired according to the City’s Traffic Calming Policy for Residential Streets, as well as noted high pedestrian use. Highway 31 Gateway / Landscaping Project
Provide beautification to the southern gateway area, including signage, landscaping and drainage improvements:
- Stormwater/infrastructure improvements and repairs to properly direct the flow of stormwater to keep it from pooling on the roadway
- Improved median strip on U.S. 31 and on both sides of the highway
- Replacement of existing fencing behind the proposed wall structure
- Improvements to existing “southern temple” structure and grounds
- 15′ tall x 130′ long retaining wall to be installed parallel to Highway 31 North
- Additional (secondary) “Vestavia Hills” sign bearing the city’s name/logo on the opposite side of Highway 31 (near the existing Chevron station)
- Landscaping in the area; work to be performed in conjunction with ALDOT where warranted

Massey Road
Road and sidewalk work is underway following a prolonged resolution of a water main relocation issue. Project includes sidewalk improvements, drainage improvements, new retaining wall, shoulder improvements, roadway widening and resurfacing.

Pavement Management
First Step Pavement Management reviews the City’s streets on a three-year rotation, with the initial assessment being completed in 2022. Following their video assessment, each street is rated using the Pavement Condition Index (PCI). Streets are rated on a scale from 1 to 100, with 100 representing excellent condition and any score below 45 considered lost. Paving priorities are set based on PCI scores, site inspections and geographic distribution.

Sidewalk Master Plan
The City of Vestavia Hills continues to install sidewalks to improve pedestrian connectivity and has developed a multi-year sidewalk master plan to guide future pedestrian projects to further connect the citizens of Vestavia Hills to the commercial areas and gathering spaces throughout the City.

Note that commercial districts along Highway 31, Rocky Ridge Road, Cahaba Heights Road, Crosshaven Drive and Green Valley Road have sidewalks shown on both sides of the road to provide additional walkable access to these areas. Future sidewalks shown in Liberty Park are based upon master plan information provided by Liberty Park Joint Venture. Future pedestrian elements to provide further connectivity are currently being studied and evaluated.
