Mark your calendar for this family-friendly afternoon of honoring veterans from all branches of service. This annual Veterans Day celebration features food and fun, especially children’s activities, entertainment and programming – all with a patriotic theme.

Mayor Ashley Curry and the City of Vestavia Hills will host a family-friendly Veterans Day celebration honoring veterans from all service branches on Sunday, November 5, 2-4pm at the Vestavia Hills Civic Center, 1090 Montgomery Highway. Enjoy light refreshments, entertainment and programming with a patriotic theme including activities for children, booths featuring information and services for veterans, antique military vehicles and more. This year’s keynote speaker is Major General (retired) David P. Burford.

Send us your photos! We would like to include veteran photos of you or a family member in our event video. Please email a scanned photo of yourself, family members or friends who have served or are currently serving in any branch of the military to cmcculley@vhal.org. Please include (1) service member’s first and last name; (2) military rank; (3) branch of service; (4) military conflict/theater of operation; and (5) dates of military service (if available).  If you have previously submitted a photo, no need to resubmit.

Send us your artwork! The Vestavia Hills Arts Council is hosting an artwork competition in partnership with the Veterans Day celebration. The theme of the competition is “Salute to Veterans.” Artwork should be 2D and no larger than 24″ x 18″ in size and should be submitted to the Mayor’s Office, Vestavia Hills City Hall, 1032 Montgomery Highway (2nd floor) by November 1. All entries will be displayed at the event on November 5.  1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be selected in each division. Winners will be recognized during the Salute to Veterans event on November 5. For additional information on the art competition, visit https://vhal.org/community/arts-council.
