Backdoor Garbage Collection

Backdoor garbage collection is available at no cost for persons with a medically certified need or for a fee for those who prefer the convenience. Backdoor garbage collection does not include recycling. For more information call 205.978.0150. You may also submit a request for information using the “Backdoor Garbage Collection” request in the Action Center.

Handicap Placards

Vestavia Hills residents may obtain handicap placards as well as renew car tags at the Vestavia Hills Finance Department. Jefferson County Senior Services

Programs and services previously provided by Jefferson County Council on Aging (also known as Elder Foundation) and the Jefferson County Office of Senior Citizens Services are now provided through United Way of Central Alabama. For assistance, please call 800-AGELINE (800.243.5463).

Lifelong Learning

Classes and lifelong learning programs are available through both Parks and Recreation and the Vestavia Hills Library in the Forest. In addition to the regular Library programming, The University of Alabama offers OLLI courses at the Library in the Forest. All of these programs are open to the public, but may require Vestavia Hills residency.

Senior Transportation

The City offers a volunteer Senior Transportation program which is coordinated through Parks and Recreation. The program is available on a first-come, first-served basis to seniors living independently in the City.
